Mike Harding's - "Fur Coat and No Knickers - July 1999
Our third
production was Mike Harding hilarious comedy
"Fur Coat and No Knickers". For this
production we went back to working with the
audience on two sides. This would prove
challenging for our stage team as there are four
very different sets, not to mention several
scenes requiring the cast to eat. On a traditional
stage it might possible to fake eating, but with
the audience sitting in very close proximity we
decided our food would be real. This takes on new
depths when you realise that there is a scene at
a wedding reception that required a three course
meal served for thirteen people, during the
scene.
The plot
centres around a family whose daughter is about
to get married. We see the stag night with the
groom and friends getting progressively more
drunk as the first half unwinds, leading to the
groom tied to a lamp post. The second half sees
the panic of the morning of the wedding, the
wedding service itself and the chaos of the
reception.
The star of
the show is the brides grandfather who is on
stage virtually throughout. He is a vulgar, fun
loving, over active womaniser and at one point is
instrumental in stealing a blow up rubber doll
from a strip club.
We again
played to sell out audiences, who from the
comments received and the laughter during the
performances, thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
